Vaastu Shastra is the art and science of living harmoniously with nature. Vastu is a science of fortune-making; hence, it attracts everyone's attention. 'Vestu' paintings aim at interfacing terrestrial energies (emanating from the earth) with the celestial energies (from other planets and constellatons) to make man a "part and parcel" (of the cosmic order), and provide him with health happiness and contentment. The use of paintings, pictures, and sculptures can create an active atmosphere and provide a sense of calm. Astrology, yoga, and vedic science (Vaastu) can be combined to solve any Vaastu problem without breaking, reconstructing, or related troubles.
Vaastu Shastra is an ancient Hindu science of architecture which helps to make a place to live and/or work in a most scientific manner taking advantage of the benefits afforded by nature, its elements, and energy fields for enhanced prosperity, health, happiness, and wealth.
These basic five elements are called as ‘Panchmahabhootas’ and they are Earth, Fire, Air Water, and Sky.
Vaastu Shastra may have originated several thousand years ago. Those learned men of those days did not live in houses themselves but they devoted their lives to the development and practice of the science called vaastushastra or vaastu, as it is popularly know today.
The principles of the scientific method were established during those days based solely on the effects of sunlight at different times of the day The observations and corrections were made only after thorough investigation of the situation.
Vastu is one of the oldest parts of Vedas, which were believed to be 4,000 to 5,000 years old. Through penance and mediation, yogis of that period attained answers they thought came from the cosmic mind itself. Hence Vedas are obeyed with divine knowledge. The art of VASTU originated in the Stapatyas Vedas, which is a part of the Athrava Vedas.
It used to be something that only architects (Sthapatas) knew about and was only passed down to their heirs. The principles of construction as enunciated in epic and treatise on temple architectures have been incorporated in the Science of Vastu. It has been described in epics like the Matayasa Purana, the Skanda Purana, the Aghni Purana, the Garuda Purana, the Vishnu Purana, etc. There are other ancient texts that pass on the knowledge of vastu sashtra to next generations, like Vishvakarmasutradhar, Samraangan Sutardhar, Kashyapshastra, Vrihadsanshita, and Pramaanmanjarayee.
It was said that a number of houses were constructed for the kings who were asked to attend the Rajasuya Yagnah of King Yuddhistir. Sage Vyasa has written that these houses were as tall as the peaks of Mount Kailas, which means that they stood tall and magnificent. The houses were free of obstructions, had compound walls with high walls and their doorways were of uniform height and adorned with numerous metal ornamentations. According to legend, the site plan of Ayodyha, the city of Lord Ram was similar to the plan described in the great architectural text "Manasara". References are also to be found in Buddhist literature, of buildings constructed on the basis of Vastu. They contain references to specific buildings. According to Buddhist legend, Lord Buddha once gave a discourse to his disciples on architecture and even told them that overseeing the construction of a building is one of the duties of an order. Monasteries (Viharams) or temples, buildings that are partly residential and partly sacred (Ardhayoganis), residential storeyed houses (Prasadam), multi-storey houses (Harmyas) and Guha or residential houses for middle class people.
The vastu, which means dwelling place, is believed to be the residence of gods and men. According to its modern definition, it includes all buildings regardless of their purpose, including residential, industrial, commercial, and lodging structures. It is based on five basic and essential elements including Vayu (air),Agni (fire),Jal (water),Bhumis (earth) and Aakaash (space). These are known as Pancha bhutas. Everything on Earth is made up of these elements
Vaastu considers the interplay of various natural forces involving the five elements of Earth, Water, Wind, Fire and Ether and strives to maintain balance as these elements influence, direct and change the living styles and habits of both humans and every living being on earth So they influence our deeds, our luck, our behavior, and other basic aspects of life.
Vastu Shashtra is the sublime elucidation of the surroundings and their influence on your lifestyle. Vastu literally refers to "house" or dwelling place and its principles establish to bring harmony between the fine elements. Earth, sky, fire, water and air in the environment. Vastu Shastra unites the science, art, and astronomy; it can also be said to be an ancient mystic science for design and building. Vastu Shashtra helps us to make our life better and secures us from things going wrong. Vastushastras is based on various natural energy sources, which are available for free cost in the atmosphere like:
Solar Energy from Sun. Lunar energy from moon, earth energy, sky energy, electric energy, magnetic energy, thermal energy, wind energy, light energy, cosmic energy
Vastu is an ancient science which has been used for centuries to bring happiness and wealth into one’s life. It can be used for every space, every room, every home, every temple, every business, every city and even for the entire planet. Vastu can help you at both micro and macro levels. There are three forces in action which help create harmony. Wind, water and air or, vaayu (wind), jal (water) and agni ( If these forces are properly balanced, then there will be nothing to disturb them. If you replace fire with water and wind with water or in any other combinations, the forces will act accordingly and create disharmoniousness and unpeacefulness.
Orientation of a house is important to save energy, and to create a better home design, which would be comfy for living at the same time gives positive energy, good health, prosperity, and wealth to the residents. There are eight cardinal directions: North, South, East and West. These four directions are called cardinal directions, and the point where any two directions meet is called an intercardinal or ordinate point. For example, the intersection of the lines from the North Pole to the South Pole and from the East Pole to the West Pole is called the Prime Meridian. These directions are important in Vastu Shashtra as they combine the benefits from two directions at once. Our Shastra says if you worship, idolize and honor the Lords of these eight direction, people will yield eternal blessings in the forms of success, health and wealth. We will now examine the importance of these things according to scripture.
